While many of the stories here have a smidgen of truth, they are not a tell-all compendium of facts. What could be, rather than what was. What was wanted or wished for. Idealized. Even the pain.
The protagonists in Let's Make Out, as in most of my stories, are amalgams of individuals I have known or loved. Even married.
Torpedo Joe and Give and Take, take affairs to another level. Both stories revolve around stable relationships with the main protagonist admitting to voyeurism. Wanting to see his love seduced. Watching can be both thrilling and heart-wrenching.
The first story, Feels OK To Me, features Fiona. Loosely based on a composite of several colleagues from too many years ago. I often ended up away for days at a time on various trips as a business analyst. Sometimes providing sales support. We hung out in bars and usually dined together at the end of the day. Almost like dating, but with expense accounts and fancy hotels. Lots of opportunities for mischief.
Fiona becomes a central figure in several works that are in the pipeline, including a volume of shorts dedicated to her.
Give And Take, a nonsense title of which the origins are lost in time that I kept anyway, features a lover and a friend where the protagonist Luke, realizes he wants to watch his love seduced. Is he able to hold on to what he had? His friend morphing to a rival. Who will win?
Joe, as in Torpedo Joe, is hung like a horse. Alicia reveals to her husband, Colby, that she danced with Joe and the banter between husband and wife escalates. Colby is no saint, having slow-danced with two of Alicia's work colleagues at the party they are attending. Almost as a dare, Alicia taunts Colby by going to Joe to 'sample the goods' for a second time.
As we age, we become more certain of what we want, or will accept, in partners. How we want our lives to be. By embracing safety we lose spontaneity, flexibility and adaptability. The lost child within. Not a loss I am comfortable with. Not a loss I accept.
Dirty old man is an oft used phrase to describe older guys that show an interest in younger women. Or, maybe show an interest in sex of any kind. The male character is more than loosely-based on me. While the sexual situation did not occur as in Dirty Old Man, there was an 'Emily'.
The last story, Cityscape And Frozen Porn, another in a series of female boss and male subordinate. In fact, a story within the story makes reference to Fiona in Feels OK To Me. I'm getting to rather like my characters.
